Sixth Form students are celebrating after a second win at the Young Enterprise Area Finals in Durham recently. The Area Finals are the second consecutive win for the School’s Young Enterprise Team, with their product, a range of innovative, specially-designed ‘Pock-!t’ purses and also fun character versions called ‘Pock-!t-Monsters’.
After a gruelling series of presentations and nerve wracking interviews with a panel of judges, they were delighted to receive awards for ‘Best Trade Stand’ and ‘Best Overall Winner’. Earlier this year they won the top prize at a Trade Fair at the Metro Centre which took them onto the Area Finals in Durham. They are one of just four teams that have made it to the regional final.

The competition is fierce but if they win the next stage in Newcastle, they would then go on to represent the North East area in the National Final in London in July.
Young Enterprise is an international charitable organisation. It encourages young people to set up businesses, produce and market a product and eventually present an accountof their experiences to an invited audience of fellow Young Enterprise students and business people.

Teesside High recently enjoyed a hockey and netball tour to Barcelona. Here is a report by our Under 14 Hockey Captains Becky Donaldson and Charlotte Kendrick:-
The recent hockey and netball tour to Barcelona was amazing! The weather was not great, but the spirit and the activities made the trip really memorable. We experienced great coaching, great wins in hockey and great torrential rain (even worse than England), but it didn’t stop us swimming in the freezing hotel pool and doing acrobatics in the sea. The Hockey Squad were coached by a Spanish international and an international goal keeper, resulting in us beating a local Barcelona team 2-1, with an exciting goa

l in the last seconds. The tournament wins against other English teams were by a larger margin.
Netballers had some fantastic coaching both days from England internationals; we found the standard of play against some excellent large schools very challenging, but we really gave our all and managed to limp through to the very end – quite literally with sprained ankles and achy knees. Miss Stephens was impressed that it never managed to dampen our spirits or enthusiasm.
On the third day we went to the Port Aventura theme park where we were all thoroughly soaked and came back high on adrenaline. Friday saw the sun make an appearance, it finally cleared up but we were going home. We had a wonderful last day shopping in Las Ramblas in Barcelona and had a tour of the famous Neu Camp stadium, home of Barcelona FC. We would like to thank Miss Turnbull, Miss Davison and Miss Stephens for an exceptional trip which we will never forget and we look forward to the next one.
