District Cross Country ChampionshipsFriday 09 December 2016 | By Samantha Hockney
Teesside High School was represented by 34 pupils at Stockton’s District Cross Country Championships at Preston Park on Thursday 8 December.
In the Preliminary Girls Competition (Y7), Isabelle and Maia finished 3rd and 8th respectively, securing a place to represent the District in early 2017.
Erin, Betsy, Jess, Summer and Olivia all gave their best and achieved some good results. We now await the results of their overall team performance.
In the Junior Girls Competition (Y8/9) Peta Collins performed brilliantly placing 2nd in a race with well over 80 competitors. Eleanor Crame was next back for THS claiming 23rd place.
Natasha Dodds, Millie Holmes, Lexi Bonas, Laura Sowerby, Alice Christon, Laura Anderson and Shanice Dube also tried super hard and again we await for their team result to be published.
In the Intermediate Girls (Y10/11), Laura Havis gave a very impressive performance finishing in 1st place by a convincing margin, followed in shortly after by Sapphire Locker who finished inside the top 20, achieving a personal best.
In the Senior Competition, Rebekah Higgins was the only girl to take on the 5000m course, so ran with the boys. Rebekah gave a convincing performance and beat many of the boys back, securing 15th and successfully gaining her place for the District team.
For the boys, Euan Wilson led our Preliminary (Y7) team home with Will Manders (Y6) one place behind. Ross Clapton and Max Leonard completed the entrance from this age group and all can be pleased with their first attempt on the course.
Ben Peacock was our outstanding runner in the Junior Boys section finishing 22nd out of a field of over 70. Ben has another season at this age group and can look forward to some real success next year. He was supported by Josh Brown, Austin Carey and Sammy Atwal.
A full team represented our Intermediate Boys. Jon Sutton-Haigh led our team home in a credible 14th position and was well backed up by Josh Rance and Sanjay Kumarendran, who both finished in the top twenty. Brandon Dube, Callum Poppitt, Amar-Raj Atwal and George Manders all finished in the top half, completing a fine team performance. It was also good to see Tom Collins back running competitively who also completed a top twenty finish.
All of the students taking part are to be congratulated on a great effort round a very wet, slippery and difficult course.
Congratulations and good luck to Isabelle, Maia, Peta, Laura and Rebekah who will all compete in the second round on Wednesday 11 January.
