'A Midsummer Night's Dream' at Teesside High School

Thursday 30 March 2017 | By Samantha Hockney

Senior School students shone in their first public performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream on Wednesday 29 March.
The cast graced the stage to impress the audience with a wonderfully humorous interpretation of the Shakespearean classic.
Excellently supported by lighting, sound and the backstage team, our talented students received rapturous applause from an audience of staff, family and friends.
Mrs Saxton, Head of Drama and Director of the play, said: “This has certainly been a challenging production, but we hope our audience is as delighted with the results as we are.
“First, we had to explore Shakespeare’s language and we spent many a lesson investigating different interpretations and meanings of the text – eventually deciding to go for the most humour we could find.
“The play evolved as we rehearsed, as cast members saw something different in what they were saying each week.
“Shakespeare would have been proud of my team, I am sure. He would have loved the way our young people created a variety of ways of presenting the same scene, often with hilarious consequences.”
Tickets are still available ‘on the door’ for Thursday 30 March at 6.00pm, priced at £5.00.
