A Year 13 student at Teesside High School Sixth Form has secured a prestigious place at Oxford University’s best performing college after achieving A*A*A grades in her A-level examinations.
Sarah, from Redcar, will read Classics (Greek and Latin) at Merton College from October 2017.
Sarah excelled in her Greek (A*), Latin (A*) and English Literature (A) A-levels and is excited for her next step. She said: “I am absolutely thrilled with my results and delighted my hard work has paid off.
“The Oxford University admissions process was very challenging but I knew my biggest test would be to perform at the best of my ability in my exams. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Teesside High School and am very grateful to my excellent teachers for their invaluable support.”
Merton College is renowned for its vibrant and diverse intellectual community. It is first in the academic league table of all Oxford University colleges and its alumni boasts Nobel Prize winners and cultural leaders from T.S. Eliot to J.R.R. Tolkien.
Jane Bird, Head of Sixth Form at Teesside High School, said: “Of around 1500 students who study Classics subjects at A-level nationally, Sarah has worked phenomenally hard to stand out in such a small pool of high flying candidates.
“She has been rightfully rewarded with a place at one of the world’s most renowned universities.”
