Alison McKenna

Learning Support Assistant

Life before Teesside High School

Originally from Ireland, I met and married a northerner and we have made our home in the North East with our four daughters. Before joining Teesside High School, I worked for the Local Authority as a Project Officer supporting unemployed residents into education, employment and training. I completed my degree in Management Studies at Teesside University.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Seeing the students achieve little steps each day to enable them to fully engage in a small sized classroom environment, and seeing them reach their full potential.

What do you enjoy most about Teesside High School?

There are plenty of things I enjoy about Teesside High School, particularly the grounds, which are amazing. Also, the students who are very polite and love being part of what feels like a community. I also enjoy the way staff communicate with each other.

What is your favourite time of the year?

My favourite time of the year has to be Christmas (and not for the snow as I hibernate when we get any). I love seeing the excitement of children leading up to Christmas and also my own children when we put our decorations up…of which there are many!

What do others say about you?

I think you would have to ask them that! I would hope they would say I am dedicated and hard working and I always try to do good by others.
