Nicola Clapton

Teacher

Life before Teesside High School

I studied to become a teacher at Sunderland University for four years. During this time I was lucky to experience a wide range of schools including six weeks in a school in Kentucky, USA. Before working at Teesside High School I enjoyed teaching a range of year groups in a Redcar school for 16 years.

What you enjoy most about your subject?

I love to see the Reception children happy, enjoying school and making friends.  I enjoy making learning fun and providing first hand experiences where possible. I feel really proud when the children make progress and are willing to have a go.

What do you enjoy most about Teesside High School?

I love Teesside High School and the friendly family atmosphere.  I feel so lucky to work among such professional, hard working staff and really enjoy the team spirit. There is certainly a warmth between everyone in school with a mutual respect between children and staff.

What is your favourite lesson?

I enjoy work based around our topics and expanding the children’s previous knowledge.  We are fortunate at Teesside High to be able to offer such fantastic trips to provide first hand experiences and opportunities to help take the children s learning further.

What do others say about you?

That I am committed to the care and education of young children.
