Rohan Garud

Games Captain

How long have you been at Teesside High School?
I joined THS in the Sixth Form so I’m still a relatively new face around here.

What has been the highlight of your time at Teesside High School?
By far the highlight of every week as a Sixth Form student is the Year 12 vs Year 13 football match on a Wednesday afternoon. There’s nothing better to take your mind off rigorous A-level work!

Which subjects are you studying?
I am studying Biology, Mathematics and Sports Studies at A-level.

What are your aspirations beyond Teesside High School?
I would like to study Sport Management, hopefully at Loughborough as it’s one of the best sporting universities in the world.

What are your hobbies and interests?
I am obsessed with playing and watching sport. My favourite sports are cricket, football, table tennis and tennis. However, one of my biggest interests is strength training. Going to the gym is always my favourite part of the day as it is an opportunity for me to clear my mind and focus on improving myself. Furthermore, I am a big Liverpool fan and a massive India cricket fan.

I have played cricket for Wolviston Cricket Club for 11 years. When I was younger, I represented Cleveland in minor counties cricket, too. Cricket has always been a huge part of my life and is by far my favourite sport; throughout the year I train as much as I can as there is nothing I enjoy more.

What are you going to bring to your role?
As Games Captain, I would like to help the department by offering support in practice sessions. Also, I intend to write some insightful articles in the school newsletter about important aspects of life such as physical health and well-being or diet and nutrition tips. Another thing I would like to introduce is educating some of the Year 9 and 10 students about how to maximise progress in the gym. I understand that it is a huge aspiration for many students to improve themselves physically and as this is a huge interest of mine; I would love to be able to pass on my knowledge to younger students.
