Nursery Curriculum

Nursery children follow a rich, broad and balanced curriculum which helps instil a lifelong passion for learning.

Our boys and girls are taught by highly qualified and experienced teachers and teaching assistants and afforded the highest level of care to ensure the very best start to life.

Our small class sizes allow pupils to benefit from personalised learning and guidance and attention not always available in busier settings. We use forward-thinking approaches to teach key subjects in fun and engaging ways and find that our children make phenomenal progress.

Activities throughout nursery ensure children make maximum progress in all seven areas of learning and development within the EYFS curriculum: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Communication and Language, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

Weekly lessons in PE and music are delivered by specialist teachers. The children regularly visit the Prep School Library and also enjoy a weekly Forest School lesson led by our Forest School Leader.

At Teesside High we follow the hugely successful and dynamic phonics programme, Song of Sounds. Our nursery pupils thoroughly enjoy their regular phonics sessions which develop speaking and listening skills and children’s discrimination of sounds including letter sounds. This ensures the children get the very best start to their reading and writing journey which they build upon when they transition to Reception.
