Life before Teesside High School
I studied Industrial Design at Teesside University and then for my PGCE at Sunderland University. Whilst specialising in Product and Graphic Design, I have taught and led most areas of Design Technology and other creative subjects. I was a pastoral lead at my previous school and took great pride in the wider contribution I could make to an individual student beyond the classroom. Following this I worked in a much smaller school setting and was able to provide highly personalised learning opportunities to those who I taught. I have now moved to Teesside High School to take on the role as Design & Technology and Food and Nutrition Lead.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love that Design and Technology is a wide ranging subject area. It is an area that is creative but can also have genuine impact on the way people behave and live from day to day. I enjoy showing students the design process and building their confidence and awareness when approaching challenges. Seeing a student develop and master practical skills is very rewarding.
What do you enjoy most about Teesside High School?
It has been clear from day one that the focus of every school day is the amazing students we have in front of us. The student-focussed approach of every staff member has been inspiring to see and it is clear how appreciative the students are of the hard work done on their behalf.
What is your favourite time of the year?
I really like when spring is really kicking in towards the end of April. Being able to go on longer walks and bike rides with my family and appreciate the lighter evenings is always greatly appreciated after the long winter months spent living by the sea.
What do others say about you?
People would say I am a dedicated family man, hard working and someone who doesn’t mind being a bit different.
