Why Choose Us?

Helpful reading as you consider your child’s next step…

A word from the Headteacher

Teesside High School is a small school that focuses on the needs of the individual child, through a warm and nurturing ethos. We are judged to be one of the best independent schools in the country for the personalised education we offer each of our pupils.

We set our sights high in our academic aspirations, but equally, we believe that the education of a child outside of the classroom is just as important as it seeks to build character, resilience and life-long skills. We do this through sport, music, drama and the Duke of Edinburgh Award, to name just a few strands of what we believe education is truly about.

We do not select by academic ability, focusing more on what your child can do. I passionately believe that this leads to a much more diverse and inclusive school community where each child can experience a real sense of belonging. In small classes, we deliver an outstanding teaching and learning experience. We are passionate in our belief that children should not simply be taught to pass examinations. We encourage debate, challenge and creativity – just some of the values we instil with pride.

I firmly believe that a happy child is a productive child; our excellent pastoral care keeps this principle firmly at the root of our dealings with pupils and parents. Our students are known, valued, challenged and supported – we are the only private school in the area recognised for this very strength by the Independent Schools Inspectorate.

We are set in extensive grounds on the banks of the River Tees with our sports facilities all on-site, including extensive outdoor playing areas, rolling grounds, Forest School and modern fitness suite.

It is very hard to do our campus, our teachers and our ethos justice. I warmly invite you to come and visit us, to experience what one parent succinctly phrased ‘Education as it should be’.
