I was educated at George Abbot School in Guildford and after, completing my A-levels, I worked for one of the high street banks. I had always intended to teach and eventually found myself at Bulmershe College of Education in Reading. I followed this with a degree in education from the Open University. Forty years later, having spent time as a Head of Physical Education and Deputy Head Teacher, I was invited to become a Governor of Teesside High School.
I am married to Anne and we have two grown up sons who both work in the graphic media industry. I still enjoy sport and coach basketball at local league level but most of my time is taken up as an tennis referee where I hold an International Tennis Federation qualification.
