Back-to-Back Champions! THS on top again at Stockton District Athletics
Friday 23 May 2025 | By Erin McKeownA fantastic day of athletics at Middlesbrough Sports Village saw a squad of 40 talented THS pupils compete against 10 other schools in the area. Our athletes truly excelled, delivering superb performances in both track and field events. It was an outstanding display of talent, sportsmanship and teamwork, and I cannot speak highly enough of the pupils who represented THS so well. They supported each other, pulled together and gave their all, contributing valuable points to their teams throughout the day.
Year 7 Highlights (Preliminary)
Year 7 pupils gave stand-out performances. Abigail dominated the 200m and shot put, while Henry clinched victory in the shot put. Jacob finished a strong 2nd in the 1500m, and the relay team – Katie, Faith (captain), Sophia, Abigail and Harriet—put on a superb performance to finish 1st.
Year 8/9 Highlights (Junior)
Tinashe (captain) was absolutely unstoppable, smashing the 100m and 200m with personal bests in both. Amelie won the shot put and just missed out on 1st place in the 800m, finishing a close 2nd. Annie showed great resilience to finish 2nd in the 300m, and Oliver M impressed everyone by throwing over 40m to win the javelin – one of the best throws we have seen in the school’s history (definitely a star for the future!). Gideon placed 2nd in both the discus and long jump. The girls’ relay team – Amelie, Tinashe, Betsy, and Evie – were in sensational form, clinching a convincing win to cap off a remarkable day.
Year 10/11 Highlights (Intermediate)
Year 10 and 11 pupils competed in the intermediate competition, and the performances here were equally outstanding. Kyle (captain) was exceptional, winning both the 1500m and 800m races. George S claimed 2nd in the javelin, while Louis posted strong finishes in both the shot put and discus. Martha was another standout, winning the 800m and finishing 2nd in the 200m. Annabel (captain) delivered a brilliant performance with 1st place in the high jump (with a new personal best of 1m47) and 2nd in the 1500m. Helena threw the javelin to victory, while Tendai topped the discus and secured 2nd in the shot put.
