Careers Convention 2020

Thursday 09 January 2020 | By Samantha Hockney

Each year, Teesside High School hosts a highly successful Careers Convention. The event will be held later this month on Tuesday 28 January, 6.00pm-8.00pm, and we would like to invite pupils, parents, families and the wider community to come along.

Whether you attend Teesside High School or another secondary school in Teesside, this event is a perfect opportunity for you to explore your progression and possible next steps after school or further education, taking advantage of the endless opportunities available within higher education and business in our local area and beyond.

Our marketplace-style event is attended by over 30 universities, training providers and local businesses, providing up-to-date and relevant advice for careers guidance. The following professions will be represented: Armed Forces, Architecture and Surveying, Dance and Performance, Dentistry, Engineering, Graphic Design, Finance, Investment and Business, Journalism, Law, Manufacturing, Marketing, Medicine, Pharmacy, Teaching, Veterinary Science and many more. There will also be representatives from Tees Valley Learning Providers to advise on Higher and Degree Level Apprenticeships, and Youth Direction Careers Advice Team.

  • For students in Year 9, this will be the first opportunity to gather information about a broad range of careers which should help to form the basis of option choices for GCSE.
  • For students in Years 10 and 11, this is an opportunity to both further develop their thoughts on future careers and to start to think about options for post-16 study.
  • Sixth Form students in Year 12 should use this event to prepare for the UCAS or workplace applications that they will be making in Year 13. University Admissions Officers will be on hand to offer advice on the background of different universities and the range of courses available.

We live in an ever more competitive world and to increase their prospects and chances of success, students need to ensure that they stand out from the crowd. Networking and gathering contacts amongst the delegates at the Careers Convention will enable students to broaden their knowledge, secure work experience placements, help gain entry to university or secure higher and advanced level apprenticeships.

Booking is not required; we look forward to seeing you there.
