Teesside High School pupil launches bid to become Darlington Youth MP

A Teesside High School pupil has launched a bid to become the next Darlington Youth MP.

What is a Youth MP?

Anu in Year 10 is standing for election to become Darlington’s Member of Youth Parliament, leading the Darlington Youth Cabinet, and hopes to take forward issues that children and young people from the borough of Darlington have identified and to campaign for change.

If successful, Anu would be a member of the UK Youth Parliament, a body established in 1999 to provide opportunities for young people to influence the parliamentary process.

Anu has been an active member of our Senior Student Council for many years, and has used her experience to create a campaign focused on the following:

  1. Improving bus services

Anu wants better funding, more frequent services and priority bus lanes to make public transport faster, greener and more reliable.

  1. Increasing political education

With many young people feeling disconnected from politics, Anu wants to help students feel confident, informed and empowered to speak up.

  1. Safer period products

Anu wants stricter regulations, clearer labelling and proper testing to keep young people safe.

Anu says: “Making people’s lives better is my goal. If elected, I’ll give my all to ensure Darlington becomes a place where young people have equal access to opportunities, feel supported and can thrive.”

Voting in schools and colleges takes place from Monday 2 – Friday 6 March 2026 and it is safe to say everyone at Teesside High School is behind Anu – good luck!
