Thursday 15 August 2024 | By Samantha HockneyA Year 11 student at Teesside High School has achieved the highest grades possible in two mathematics subjects at A-level, despite sitting the examinations early.
A* result in Further Mathematics
Edward, 16, from Norton, has today secured an A* in Further Mathematics, adding to an incredibly impressive sweep of early A-level examination results, including A in AS-level Mathematics achieved in Year 7, A* in A-level Mathematics achieved in Year 9 and A in AS-level Further Mathematics achieved in Year 10.
Ed joined Teesside High in 2019 from Crooksbarn Primary School, having already achieved the highest possible results in GCSE Statistics (9), GCSE Mathematics (9), GCSE Further Mathematics (A**) and Level 3 Additional Maths (A).
Top grades
Ed’s achievement today is all the more impressive given he juggled his A-level commitments around a full Year 11 GCSE examination schedule. He will collect his GCSE results next Thursday, and hopes to continue his outstanding run of success.

Ed said: “I am so happy to have received my final early A-level result. Further Mathematics is a challenging subject but something I have really enjoyed. I am very grateful to the staff who have helped me on my mathematics journey over the last five years and wish to thank them for their support.
“I look forward to continuing my education at Teesside High School Sixth Form in September.”
We have loved following Ed’s journey through his early A-levels, with success in Intermediate Maths Challenges and UK Maths Olympiad competitions, too!
Kirsty Mackenzie, Head, said: “Ed has continuously demonstrated an incredible aptitude for mathematics, but what is perhaps most impressive is his academic achievements do not stop there. Ed’s talents extend across our broad curriculum of subjects. He is a true all-rounder.
“Raising the aspirations of pupils forms an integral part of our Able, Gifted and Talented provision. We are passionate about teaching our students that anything is possible and nurturing their ability in a supportive and motivating environment.
“I am so proud and so pleased that Ed’s hard work has paid off today, and I look forward to celebrating his undoubted further success at GCSE next week.”
