Kirsty Furness

Teacher

Life before Teesside High School

Before THS I worked at a state school, teaching Drama, for 14 years. I am lucky to have worked with DJW Talent and Apollo Arts as well. I have used my Drama skills to perform on stage regularly at the Darlington Hippodrome with Darlington Operatics Society.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

My biggest enjoyment within teaching is watching an unconfident student blossom in Drama as the year progresses. Seeing their enthusiasm for Drama improve makes me know that I am doing my job right!

What do you enjoy most about Teesside High School?

Every THS student is fully engaged in their learning, and this echoes so much in my classroom. The family-like atmosphere is very prominent and special to be around; whether that’s the staff, students or George the school dog.

What is your favourite time of the year?

Christmas is a magical time of year for me as I like to create memories with my family and friends. I love planning trips over the festive period, organising Christmas nights in or making clues to Christmas presents so people have to guess what Santa has brought them.

What do others say about you?

I am an excellent listener and often will have people share their problems with me. I am empathetic and care about everyone I come in contact with. Other people may also say that I’m pretty good at accents!
