Senior School Sports Day

The school’s annual Sports Day was a spectacular event, held under glorious sunshine and filled with thrilling competition between the three Houses.

The morning was dedicated to field events where the level of performance was outstanding, highlighted by a remarkable number of records being shattered.

In the javelin, George S, Gideon, Harry and Oliver all set new year group records, showcasing incredible talent and determination. George H made history by breaking the Year 10 boys’ long jump record, clearing an impressive 5 metres. Not far behind, Henry R set a new Year 7 record with a jump of 4.17 metres.

Oliver was not content with just the javelin record; he went on to smash the Year 8 discus record too, while Henry W claimed the Year 7 shot put record, further raising the bar for future competitors. Annabel, focused and fierce, stunned everyone by clearing an extraordinary 1.49m in the high jump – setting a new personal best and school record.

The longer distance events took place during lunchtime under the midday heat – a true test of endurance. Despite the challenging conditions, the turnout was fantastic, with many students embracing the spirit of participation. Archer was a standout, breaking the 1500m record with an impressive performance.

Adding some fun to the mix, the staff and Sixth Form held an egg-throwing competition during lunch. Mr Duncalfe and Barnaby were the champions, each managing to keep an egg intact – and took their victory (and egg) home for tea!

By midday Woodside had edged just ahead, setting the stage for an exciting afternoon on the track. It was wonderful to see every student giving their all and cheering enthusiastically for their teammates.

The afternoon track events brought more record breaks: Archer shattered the 800m record, Jacob and Rhys excelled in the 100m, Lewis triumphed in the 400m and Jacob dominated by taking the 100m and 200m titles.

In the end, it was Woodside who claimed the overall victory – a result that delighted Mrs Rodgers and perhaps caused a bit of dismay for Mr Thomas and Mr Williamson! But beyond the competition, the true spirit of the day was about full participation, effort and house pride.

A super Sports Day, filled with great performances, memorable moments and the joy of sport.
