Canoe Summer Camp
Pupils at Teesside High School (THS) in Eaglescliffe enjoyed a fun-packed week at a Canoe Summer Camp all last week, thanks to an exciting new partnership between the school and a local canoeing club.
Over 30 pupils took part in the one-week course of lessons at the school, delivered by Tees Tigers Canoe Club.
Nicola Stephens, Director of Sport at THS said: “This is part of a really exciting new venture for us and a great opportunity for our pupils. The school grounds border the River Tees, so to be able to make use of direct access to the river and offer canoeing lessons is wonderful. The children had a fantastic week and we look forward to introducing canoeing into the school curriculum next year, working in partnership with Tees Tigers.”
Longer term, Tees Tigers and Canoe England plan to carry out some ‘talent identification’ with THS pupils from a variety of age groups. Tees Tigers will become a long-term partner of the school and THS aims to become a satellite base for the club. They will work with the identified students and others on a rolling programme to develop water sports at the school.
