A range of Scholarships are available at 11+ and 16+. We have also introduced a new range of other Scholarships – please see below for details. To be considered for a scholarship a pupil must first apply, using the School’s application form.
Scholarships are awarded based on the pupil’s performance in the scholarship assessments. Students whose performance is close to that of a Scholar may be awarded an Exhibition, i.e. a one-off fixed Financial Award.
The award of a Scholarship is not only highly prestigious for the student, but entitles the holder to a modest discount each term for the duration of the Award. In addition, scholars are entitled to apply for further financial assistance. In line with current Charities Legislation, all such discounts are means tested. The means test is the standard applied across Independent Schools’ Council schools and is administered in accordance with the Independent Schools Bursars’ Association guidelines.

Assessments are held in the summer term.
NEW: The Hurworth Scholarship
There will be up to THREE Hurworth Scholarships in memory of Hurworth House School, which will be awarded in Year 9 for excellence in English or Mathematics. Assessments are held in the summer term.

Bursaries
Bursaries may only be awarded in the Senior School to those families with the most limited of means who are most likely to benefit from the education offered at the School.
They may also be awarded in the Sixth Form to local pupils whose parents have limited financial means, and sometimes these are available to help families who already have a place at the School, but whose circumstances have changed significantly during their time here.
