Clare Haggerty

Learning Support Assistant

Life before Teesside High School

I studied Theology at King’s College London so am a Bachelor of Divinity. I completed a PGCE but also a Post Graduate Diploma in Careers Guidance which has enabled me to combine working in schools and colleges with in-house delivery of Careers Guidance. I have worked in several sixth form colleges in Teesside and also in Bedfordshire. For a number of years I worked alongside social services in a Disability Careers Adviser post where I was responsible for transition of young people leaving SEN schools at 19, and this confirmed my interest in working with children and adults with disabilities. I am delighted to be in a role at Teesside High where I can continue to support young people with learning difficulties.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I find working with people with special needs both challenging and rewarding. I really enjoy helping people gain skills both in terms of their own independence and also supporting them in their education.

What do you enjoy most about Teesside High School?

Feeling part of a community that is friendly and welcoming. Working in such a beautiful setting is a big bonus, too.

What is your favourite time of year?

I love spring and the first signs of all the growth and warmth to come. In March and April the air feels different and somehow full of hope and the expectation of summer.

What do others say about you?

I hope they would say I am empathetic, caring and willing to go the extra mile to help people. Also that I talk too much about my horse!
