Paul Russell

Teacher

Life before Teesside High School

Twenty one years teaching at Sedgefield Community College.

What do you enjoy most about your subject?

My subject is obviously about people and it tends towards a focus on the most interesting and the bizarre. There is always something new to learn which often leads you to re-evaluate your perceptions of people and events in the past and indeed a clearer understanding of the present. The fact that you are never bored in teaching. The day passes so quickly and working with children means you can’t help having a chuckle on so many occasions.

What do you enjoy most about Teesside High School?

The friendliness of students and staff in the school stand out.

What is your favorite lesson?

It is hard to say. I have sometimes enjoyed going into role as people from the past which students seem to appreciate. Being a Victoria Cross winner from the Second World War, a medieval doctor, a Roman centurion and the Russian dictator Stalin have all gone down well.

What do others say about you?

I wouldn’t like to speculate!!
