Shannon Roberts

Learning Support Assistant

Life before Teesside High School

In 2019, I graduated from the University of Salford with a first class BA (Hons) in Fashion Styling and Image Making. After realising the fashion industry wasn’t for me, I then worked as a support worker for individuals with autism, ADHD and various sensory processing disorders. I decided there that working with children was my desired career path, and the next step for me would be a role in a school. That’s how I got my role here!

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I absolutely love working 1-1 with pupils – every day is so interesting and we always make it fun! Being able to see the children grow and develop their skills is lovely, and when you see that they’re having a good day it just makes the job.

What do you enjoy most about Teesside High School?

One of my favourite things about Teesside High is the class sizes. The smaller classes enable the children to get more 1-1 help than they would otherwise, and you can tell that the extra help really goes a long way.

What is your favourite time of the year?

My favourite time of the year is just after Christmas. All the children seem super refreshed and have still got a little Christmas buzz. I love hearing about what they did over the holidays and the presents they got during the holiday period.

What do others say about you?

I hope it’s all good! Although I’ve only been here a short time, the children seem to enjoy having a little giggle with me in between lessons and I like to think I’m quite funny (maybe!). I try to come into school with a smile on my face everyday, so hopefully I look approachable and friendly.
